Rules for future of ‘magic mushrooms’ under discussion in Colorado
Colorado is drafting rules and regulations for psychedelic therapy centers, which would allow consumers to purchase and use magic mushrooms and other psychedelics for medicinal purposes. Colorado is moving towards setting up rules for psychedelic therapy centers, where consumers can purchase and use magic mushrooms and other psychedelics for medicinal purposes. The state is working on rules for these centers, including who can own and operate them, training, licensing, education, and more regulations. One rule being discussed is that psychedelics must be in child-resistant packaging to protect children from accidental ingestion of them. Opponents argue this should be held off on allowing psychedelics in candy, as they believe they can cause serious health issues such as depression and PTSD. The rules are still in the draft phase and being tweaked.

DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado is about to move one step closer to setting up rules for psychedelic therapy centers.
The therapy centers would be places consumers can go to purchase and use magic mushrooms and other psychedelics for medicinal purposes.
Two years ago, voters approved a proposition that decriminalized magic mushrooms and other psychedelics in Colorado. Proposition 122 decriminalized psychedelic “natural medicine,” including psilocybin mushrooms, DMT, ibogaine and mescaline, for people aged 21 and older. Coloradans of age can have it, ingest it and cultivate it at home without criminal penalty under state law.
The proposition also gave the green light for therapy centers that allow for the use of psychedelics for medicinal purposes. Research has shown they can help with mental health issues like depression and PTSD.
Now, the state is working on rules and regulations for the therapy centers. Some of these rules include who can own and operate them, what type of training they need to have, licensing, education and more.
The rules are still in the draft phase and being tweaked.
One rule that is being heavily discussed is about how the psychedelics must be in child-resistant packaging, but some opponents want the state to go further to protect kids.
The group, “One Chance to Grow Up,” wants Colorado to hold off on allowing psychedelics in candy, like gummies and chocolate, to help make sure kids don’t accidentally eat it.
“It’s concerning to us, it’s that bad things can happen in situations outside of clinical trials. For example, an accidental ingestion of one of these particular types of products. Should they be in candy?” said Henny Lasley with One Chance to Grow Up.
Colorado’s Natural Medicine Division is having another hearing about the proposed rules on Wednesday and has more planned throughout the summer.
