Denver could see record temperatures Wednesday and Thursday

It's an absolute scorcher of a Wednesday and Thursday before storms return for Friday. It is expected to be a hot and dry day in eastern Colorado, with temperatures reaching record highs in the mid-90s in Denver, potentially challenging our daily record high of 97° set back in 1952. The Interlaken Fire near Twin Lakes will have breezy and dry conditions, but not particularly dry, but dry conditions. The daily record of 99° is likely safe, but temperatures could be more than 10 degrees above the daily average. The threat of stronger storms is expected on Friday, especially east of Denver, possibly including the metro area. Despite this, temperatures will continue to be above average in June, with average monthly temperatures more than five degrees above their month-to-date average.

TODAY AT A GLANCE: It's a hot and dry day in eastern Colorado, though with a few lower-impact gusty afternoon storms possible in a few areas.

Temperatures are the big story for both today and Thursday, with highs well into the mid-90s in Denver for today. That could challenge our daily record high of 97°, set back in 1952, though it's more likely we'll end up just a few degrees shy. Still, it'll continue our scorching start to June, with average monthly temperatures more than five degrees above the month-to-date average.

The Interlaken Fire near Twin Lakes will have breezy and dry conditions, with highs in the mid-70s in the area. While not ideal firefighting conditions, it won't be exceptionally dry or windy either.

We could get a gusty afternoon high-based storm, meaning gusty winds and a clap of thunder are possible later today thanks to just enough lingering mid-level moisture. Most areas will be dry today, though.

It's a similar story for tomorrow, with highs again back into the mid-90s in Denver. Our daily record of 99° is probably safe, but no doubt it'll be a hot one once again with highs more than 10 degrees above the daily average.

Then, we'll have to keep an eye on the threat for some stronger storms on Friday, especially as you head east of Denver (though potentially including the metro area proper). A good punch of mid and upper-level energy along with good moisture likely means we'll have a few stronger storms in eastern Colorado on Friday afternoon. Keep up-to-date on the forecast for Friday.

Storms start to clear out for Saturday with only isolated storms by then, and it'll be dry and hot for Father's Day with highs in the low 90s. We stay hot and dry into next week.
