Aurora City Council halts effort to reconsider a data center moratorium amid Trident data center fight
Aurora City Council voted 6-5 against reconsidering a data center moratorium, leaving members unable to discuss the issue amid a fight over the proposed Trident data center near homes. Aurora City Council has halted an attempt to reconsider a data center moratorium, which has been met with boos and cries from Aurora residents. The motion to suspend council rules failed, 6 yes to 5 no, and without the seven votes needed to move forward under current council rules, council members were unable to discuss the moratorium. This is part of a long dispute over the proposed 900,000 square foot Trident data center, which sits just a stone’s throw from homes in Aurora. Denver City Councilmember Stacie Gilmore, an outspoken critic of the site, also addressed Aurora city leaders late Monday night. The mayor, however, supports an indefinite moratorium and plans to bring back the same motion at the next regular city council meeting.
