The increase in tipped minimum wages has been controversial as it has risen alongside the regular minimum wage. However, a recent state law allows cities to freeze or lower this minimum, even if they are raising the regular wage. All workers, regardless of immigration status, must be paid minimum wage; exceptions include food and beverage workers.
